Sex By Decade: 1960's

It was a decade of two parts - opposite ends of a pendulum, with one wild swing.

Suburban homemakers in girdles faced bra-less hippies who dropped out of the colleges their parents were so excited to pay for.

The innocents of Beach Blanket Bingo were literally slaughtered in Vietnam, along with our collective innocence.

Fears of who sat where on the bus were replaced by racial tensions of a new genre. Many folks were pro non-violence & protested Vietnam, but they were willing to give their lives for racial equality here at home.

The rebellious youth of America demanded change. Change? We got it. And if you swung with the 60's, you got it good.

Sex came out of the closet. Again. Now sex went deeper & wider than before: a deeper voraciousness as well as a wider range of sexual activity was acknowledged, if not fully accepted. Casual sex became a political tool as 'make love, not war' was protected by The Pill.

There were experimentations of all sorts ~ sexual, racial, and pharmaceutical, just to name a few.

We lost leaders, and ideals.

We landed on the moon, and fell from grace.

But we dared to have a dream...

With much affection,
Gracie
