The Break-Up She Gets a Wake-Up Call
She was married, he was single. For the past several years they were friends
and they were lovers. Passionate lovers. The kind of lovers who's bodies fit
so comfortably together. The kind that could lay in eachother's arms and just
kiss for hours.
He told her things. Personal things. About his life. And she did the same.
They always told eachother, that no matter what would become of the
relationship, they'd always remain friends.
About six months ago, she began having reservations about their relationship.
She had thought that some of the things he told her could be untrue. Fact is,
she KNEW they were untrue. She knew that some of the stories he had told her
were exaggerated. To impress her. To make her think more of him. But there
was one thing that he did, that not only broke her heart, it broke their
relationship.
When they first met, they had agreed to certain rules of the relationship. To
play fair, and be honest were two of them. At a point in their relationship,
when he felt as though he could tell her anything, he finally told her about
his illness. Cancer. Spinal cancer. Slow growing. Treatable. He would be
starting chemo & radiation. She would be there for him the most she could.
Their relationship went on. Spending endless nights talking, making love,
laughing, feeding eachother. She would massage his back where he said they
did the radiation. But one thing always lurked in her mind. Why didn't he
have some of the complications of the therapy he was receiving? So she did a
little research and found that different people react in different ways. So
she let that thought just drift away.
Until things in his life started changing. He got out of his business, moved,
completely stopped seeing the doctors or going for any type of therapy. She
confronted him. She asked him what the hell was going on. He had told her
that his health insurance would no longer pay for treatment, therefore he
could no longer afford to see the doctors. She knew what hospital he treated
at, so she thought she would call to see if there would be something the
hospital could do. However, when she called, there was no record of him ever
being or treating there. Again, she confronted him with her findings. He
laughed and told her she had the wrong hospital, and gave her the other name.
So again, she contacted the place he told her, and again, they had no record.
She knew something was not right. She felt it. Deep in her heart. She thought
to herself how could someone do that. Use and feed on her emotions. Could
everything he'd told her about this so called "illness" be a lie. Angry.
Hurt. Feeling like a fool. She confronted him. Today he admitted it. He
admitted he lied to her.
At this point she is speechless. Numb. Angry. Hurt. She thinks to herself;
Damn what a sap I've been. She feels as though she was played like fine tune
fiddle. She wonders to herself if THIS is what really gets him off. Even
though he reiterates to her again and again how he never intended to hurt
her. How could it not be intentional? He played her emotions. All of them.
She feels that there is nothing he can say or do to justify lying about such
a terrible illness. She does what any self-respecting, lying, cheating woman
would do. She tells him to go fuck himself...it's over. Done. Finished!
