Stormy Leather Stormy Leather is a place of delight. The entire store is a toy worth talking about! A few years ago I was able to visit one of the icons of fetish fashion, Stormy Leathers. I was there before they were bought by Eurotique, but from what I hear they have not changed a lot.
Many of the “toy” stores I’ve been in were dark and gave the feeling of being dingy. I get the feeling I’m trying to sneak into the building without being seen. The lighting is almost too low and the clerks sit on stools just inside the door. There is no help and, frankly, I’m not comfortable going in them. You can find them in almost any town of any size.
It was far from that at Stormy Leathers. I went to their store on Howard Street just south of the Market District. Looking at it from the outside, I thought I was in the industrial district. In a sense, I was. The store is next to the manufacturing plant. Inside it was bright and the clerks were helpful. In fact, they were excited about their store, almost as though they were owners and not employees. It is unabashedly fetish; and even a novice will not be intimidated.
My friend and I were welcome to browse the store, look at some new (to me) things, and the staff was willing to explain anything and everything. They even invited to let me try on some of the leathers. I am a super queen (size, that is), and they had stuff that fit me. And if I didn’t find what I wanted, they would have made it for me. One of my pet peeves about the fetish fashion industry is that it is sized for my anorexic relatives. Stormy Leathers has clothes that will fit me!
Because it was New Year’s Eve week, the staff at Stormy Leathers was versed in what was going on in the fetish community and was more than willing to provide introductions, if needed, and directions, which were. I tried on the leathers. At that time my budget didn’t allow for the bra, but my friend and I did come away with a couple of "souvenirs."
