Book Review -" Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" by David Foster Wallace A collection of short fiction stories from a man who has a knack for "taking readers into places no other writer even gets near.
A collection of short fiction stories from a man who has a knack for "taking readers into places no other writer even gets near." (as written on the back of the trade paperback) This is a very good way to describe his style as well as the subject matter of "Brief Interviews With Hideous Men."
Sometimes amusing, sometimes disturbing, sometimes absolutely uncomfortable to read, this collection is an incredible romp through the mind sets of some truly awful men. Calling it "Interviews With Hideous Men" could not have been a better name as the characters that Mr. Foster Wallace presents us with are sometimes beyond understanding in their atrocious behaviors. These stories are absolutely compelling while definitely not for the feint of heart. You must be prepard to be disturbed before you decide that this is a read for you. But if you enjoy exquisite story telling and hard-core, get to the heart of the matter in a quick route characterizations, I think I can honestly suggest this as a great read.
This author's seriously biting wit, amazing way with quick characterizations and ease of telling a strange, disturbing, or even offensive story make him one of my new favorites. I highly suggest this book if "difficult" reading is something you enjoy. He's worth the cringing as you read about people that you hope really, truly don't actually exist.
