My Husband Betty: A Book Review Love transcends gender... "My Husband Betty: Love, Sex, and Life with a Crossdresser" is less a memoir of a woman married to a crossdresser named Betty and more a guide to facing the challenges of having a husband who crosdresses. It’s clear from the start that there are very few other resources available for wives of crossdressers, which makes this book all the more important.
My Husband Betty discusses the idea that while a couple can come to terms with crossdressing and be happy together there are still issues and questions that arise. Even the happiest couples deal with how often the crossdressing happens, the question of whether or not o come out to certain people or, in the case of the author and her husband, to the public. Crossdressing is still misunderstood by most people in society, and this is one problem that constantly plagues couples involved in the lifestyle.
What My Husband Betty brings to the crossdressing table is the idea that wives and spouses of crossdressers are not alone. It’s okay to have reservations, to wonder if your husband is just into wearing women’s clothing or if he might be gay. These questions cross the mind of every crossdressers spouse, and the answer isn’t always going to be a clear one. It seems that these intense relationships are constantly challenging.
Author Helen Boyd has obviously done all the necessary research which, coupled with the personal experiences of her relationship and others, provides a comprehensive background of what it means to be a crossdresser as well as what it doesn’t mean. If you’re a spouse, relative, friend or curious onlooker, this is definitely a book you need to have on your bookshelf. The honesty and the information are hard to beat.
