He Flunked the Assignment This story falls into the category of true, incredible, bizarre and amusing. The Lee Strasburg Acting School has been the training ground for many incredible actors such as Marlon Brando and Angelina Jolie. But in every school there are some blips that make for humor and an “Oh, my God…!” reaction.
Long ago in another lifetime my ex- enrolled in the Strasburg School in Los Angeles. Yes, we spent some time in and around “the industry.” It was the place to get seen, recognized, and trained. We both had gone to a university in California that relied heavily on the Stanislavski System for training actors. Many of the exercises center around training the would-be actor to focus on what s/he is doing.
The “Circle of Light” is a well-known exercise. You are expected to focus on only what is happening within a given circle of light. Other exercises include imagining what it is like to be an orange or an egg being fried. OK, we could accept these exercises. They involve developing the senses and imagination and focusing on what you are doing.
However, one day the execution of the assignment was a bit too much. The assignment was to perform on stage something you would never do in public. Many of the students chose such things as putting on makeup and picking their nose as the exercise.
One day the ex- was late getting to class. As with most performances, you are not allowed to enter the performance area while one is going on. He stood outside the door and watched the performance.
A young actor was physically in a circle of light. The only other thing within the “Circle of Light” was the overstuffed chair on which he was sitting. As he watched, the following unfolded:
The young man removed his t-shirt. He was well muscled. He ran his hands over his abs, up and down his arms and caressed his nipples. After a few minutes, he stood and unbuttoned his 501s and slid them and his boxers off and sat down again on the overstuffed chair. Slowly he moved his hands over his thighs and then to his limp cock. He teased his balls and his cock responded. Sliding his hand up and down the shaft he brought it to full attention.
Again and again his shaft lost rigidity and then regained it. Over and over he brought it back to life. But he could never quite get it off. After about 15 minutes of trying the young actor gave up and put back on his clothes.
Once the lights went on, my ex- entered the auditorium to a discussion of the performance. The young actor was lauded for doing something hardly anyone would do in public. However, the teacher asked the class, “Why was his performance unsuccessful?”
Many of the young women in the class were still sitting with their hand clasped in their laps, intently looking at them and blushing profusely. Finally, one jock in the front of the class chimed in with, “He didn’t get it off.”
Obviously, this young man was not going to work his way through school like one of my profs who did porn movies to pay his tuition.
