You know, every time this theme rolls around, so do my eyes. Then I laugh. I guess it's because I think the whole BDSM thing is funny. I am generally a very open minded gal when it comes to sex, and I understand that some people like different things. What I can't understand is how pain and humiliation can equal pleasure.

To me, sex is all about pleasuring yourself and your partner. When I look up the word sex Merriam-Webster says;

1. either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and that are distinguished respectively as female or male
2. the sum of the structural, functional, and behavioral characteristics of living things that are involved in reproduction by two interacting parents and that distinguish males and females
3. a sexually motivated phenomena or behavior

Ok..so then I thought why not break down BDSM and maybe I won't find it so funny and have a better understanding. So let's begin, shall we?

Bondage:
1. the tenure or service of a villein, serf, or slave
2. 1. a state of being bound usually by compulsion (as of law or mastery):
   2. servitude or subjugation to a controlling person or force.

2. obsolete : Instruction
3. a field of study
4. training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral

   2. orderly or prescribed conduct or pattern of behavior
   3. self-control
6. a rule or system of rules governing conduct or activity

Next on the list is Sadism. Now this, to me, just does not even remotely sound pleasurable..

1. a sexual perversion in which gratification is obtained by the infliction of physical or mental pain on others (as on a love object)

1. a sexual perversion characterized by pleasure in being subjected to pain or humiliation especially by a love object -- compare sadism
2. pleasure in being abused or dominated : a taste for suffering.

A taste for suffering? Now I ask you, who the hell wants to suffer during sex? I mean, yeah, a little slap and tickle, or prolonging the moment of orgasm, I can dig that, but suffering? Umm. No. That is NOT on my list of pleasurable things to do or have inflicted upon me. Thanks, but no thanks.

And yes, I'm still laughing and rolling my eyes.
