The Sexual Revolution of the 60's I wasn't born until the 70's, but I have to appreciate the things that occured in the 60's. Civil rights, women's rights, everything those people worked so hard for did make a difference for all the generations to come. I was born in the 70's, a child of the 80's and a product of the 90's but the generations before me were the trendsetters and the hippies of the 60's and early 70's. I grew up looking at the 60's pinup girls like Bettie Page and hearing about protests and the civil rights movement, free love and Woodstock.
The 50's were pretty uptight, all about the perfect little family unit and the perfect housewife, think June Cleaver and her perfect pressed dress, heals and pearls. The 60's changed all that. Women started declaring their independence and their status as sexual beings. From pin up girls to free loving hippies, they paved the way for the women of the future to have sexual freedom and rights.
The 60's truly started a sexual revolution: swingers hit the scene, wife swapping and sex parties occured in normal homes throughout suburbia, hippies returned to nature running naked in the rain and practicing free love with no restraints and no rules. Women took charge of their own sexuality and reproductive freedom.
By the time I was old enough to be sexually active the world had changed again. Free love had evaporated as the fear of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases flourished. It made people long for the days of sex, drugs, and rock and roll, with no worries, no fear. Those days are long gone but will never be forgotten, not even by those who did not live through them. Our society and culture will be forever changed by the sexual revolution of the 60's.
