Soul Mates & Hot Dates How to tell who's who. I wish I could think of something helpful or insightful to say about this book. It's utter crap. All our most important relationships are soul-level interactions resulting from karma generated in past lives. Shaw's ideas are ridiculously simplistic on one hand, and disturbingly complex on the other.
Still, the theories you'll find in Soul Mates & Hot Dates are rather popular in metaphysical circles and you may find they resonate with you. You'll find tips on how to tell when someone truly is a soul-connection and when not. You'll find anecdotal support for Shaw's relationship ideas, examples of real karma at work in people's lives. Always impossible to prove, but thought-provoking nonetheless.
The chapters on astrological compatibility are somewhat interesting, though I find them frustratingly innacurate for my own use. I'm a Capricorn with absolutely no Capricorn tendencies or traits.
I do believe in reincarnation and soul connections and karma. But when I think of my relationships in terms of these complex webs of karmic debt and co-dependence, it makes me very tired. And I can't help but wonder...what's the point? Each lifetime generates new issues, new karma, new soul connections to be dealt with next time around. Since the majority of Americans don't believe in reincarnation or understand karma to this degree, most people will never escape their karmic cycles and learn the lessons they struggle with.
