Art is in the Eye of the Beholder

Let me ask you something, what is not art?

It doesn't have to be erotic, or by some well known artist, for me to appreciate art. For what someone else may like, I may turn my nose up at. I feel that art is in the eye of the beholder. It's what a person feels about a particular piece that interests me. Art is something different to everyone.

For instance, I have a few plates that were painted on by the infamous Lena Liu. She paints flowers and buttlerflies in great detail...and I love how they look. With soft tones and muted colors, they give me a sense of peace and calm. To others, they just look like hand painted plates.

One of my favortie pieces of art is a framed print I aquired upon my Father's death. It's called "Free at Last" and is the work of Byron Fish.

Byron Fish (1908-1996) was a life-long writer/editor/book author who became an artist when he began illustrating his own articles in Family Circle Magazine.

The reason I so love this piece is because it can mean different things to different people. Some think it's just some dude runnin' around naked screaming, "FREE AT LAST"...for others it may mean a closure to a death or divorce. To me, it means I'm free of cancer...and that my Father & Mother are free of the constraints of this earth.

But ya know, I do kinda dig that naked lil dude dancin' around....reminds me that we all should have these kind of "free at last" moments in life.
