Election Day Fever

Today I got out of my sick bed to vote. Election day did what acts of nature would not -- fire, tornadoes, floods, I'd still keep to my bed. Death from these is no different to me than death from this illness.

But the thought of survival and the world I would then have to endure was a fate literally worse than death.

I am a political person. Not because I love love love it, but because I am a practical person. If I have to live by the rules, I want a voice in the creation of them.

Along with this illness, I suffered this season through the typical cloudy haze of politicians avoiding the issues. I watched as men with ivory tower educations set in motion laws and events which if they had (really) studied history they could have avoided.

It was enough to make a healthy person reach for a puke bucket.

If we had universal health care, or affordable health care of some sort, I would have spent the past month writing about all of this in great detail. But we do not. So here I sit in one of the wealthiest countries with the poorest excuse of "I'm too sick".

Since this is literally the final hours in which to state my case for getting out and voting, I'm going to post as much as I can, like blog entries, to the discussion boards. And I'm going to do my best to get the other columnists involved too.

(It could be the virus but I think it's the status of things here in our country, our world, which makes me feverish right now.)

So please, stay tuned. Or skip all this and GO VOTE.

With much affection,
Gracie
