Sex & the Perfect Lover Tao, Tantra and the Kama Sutra Confirms for me, yet again, that it is possible to over-analyze and hyper-discuss sex, sucking the joy out of it as a result.
Perhaps I am not being fair to this text. The methods and concepts described herein seem particularly suited for couples who have been together for a relatively long time. This is when the sex has progressed beyond the fiery intensity of the newly-enraptured, and a deep, meaninggul level of familiarity and trust has been established. There's a chapter on Finding Your Soulmate, but the advice there is rather pat, predictible and comes across as an afterthought. The strength of this book is in its message for couples, who can apply the information to enhance their deeper sexual connection. Right on. Since I'm nowhere near that circumstance in my own life, I find it hard to relate to these concepts and actually become rather bored with them. We here at Sex-Kitten agree, of course, that sex is a beautiful, spiritual act in all its various forms and stages. As individuals, though, we're naturally drawn to different aspects of sex. The aspects covered in this book just really don't inspire me right now. I did find several interesting Tao translations and an interesting discussion of yin-yang. The text is extremely woman-friendly, giving proper glory to the sexuality of women. In the chapter on Tantra, I discovered a lovely metaphor that I'm sure I will steal and use in my own writing one day: that when two people have sex, each becomes a divinity in the eyes of the other. Indeed, every truly passionate embrace occurs on some level between a god and a goddess. Other topics covered include the G-Spot (referred to here as a woman's Sacred Spot), meditation and relaxation, rituals for sex magick, chakras, energy and erotic motion, explosive orgasm, and the description and philosophy of the Kama Sutra. There are exercises for increasing the sensitivity of the clitoris and the potency of a man's erection. I enjoyed the chapter on aphrodisiacs (you'd be surprised how many there are--did you know celery is one?). So, while I didn't enjoy this or learn as much as I'd like, I recommend Sex and the Perfect Lover to anyone involved in a deep, comfortable relationship.
