Crushing On Janeane Garofalo "I guess I just prefer to see the dark side of things. The glass is always half-empty. And cracked. And I just cut my lip on it. And chipped a tooth."
~ Janeane Garofalo ~ I love Garofalo. Adore her. So here's a little more about her...
She was interviewed by Ray Richmond for his book, My Greatest Day in Show Business: Screen Legends Share Their Fondest Memories, and these are a few of her thoughts:
"Best day in show business, huh? Right. Oakay. Uh. let's see... does the day I found out that I was one of Entertainment Weekly's "50 Funniest People Alive" count? No, wait, I'm not really serious about that.
Wait, I know what I'll say. My greatest day was the day that I was fortunate enough to be seated next to Martin Short at a luncheon. I'm not joking. That was just absolutely, positively it for me. Because I have just such total respect for that man - as a comedian, as a performer, everything.
...I'd probably have a less lame "greatest day" for you, but I'm just not impressed by most of the stuff in the business that's supposed to make me stand up and sing. I honestly don't know why. I'm not a real "high highs" kind of person to begin with, you know. "Low lows," yes. But I don't sit around thinking about how wonderful it is to be me. It's just nver that way at all.
For one thing, it isn't wonderful to be me. I don't do much of anything except work. My private life is never made public because nobody cares. Nobody wants to read dirt about someone with boring dirt. I mean, I don't even let them do my hair & makeup before I am on a talk show. How exciting can I possibly be?"
Pleny, Janeane, plenty.
With no disrespect to Mr Short, I am not going to get into all that... I just wanna crush on Garofalo.
I mean she's just so real. Wait. She's better than that. She's the real we all wanna be.
Often described as 'self-loathing' and 'self-depricating,' she is also called 'arrogant' & 'too-cool-for-the-room.' It's the complete acceptance & confidence in herself that is what we all strive for. She knows who she is, who she isn’t.
Here’s hoping her production company, I Hate Myself Productions*, will bring us more of both Janeane & movie roles with women like her.
* The name of her production company comes from an expression she has always said - being that this was a new endeavor, she probably thought of this in one of those 'Why did I do this? moments. It is not a sign of her really hating herself! *wink*
