First They Came For The Prostitutes... Gracie adapts the classic poem to fit today's political apathy. First they came for the prostitutes, and I did not speak out -
because I was not a prostitute, didn't pay for prostitutes.
Then they came for the pornographers, and I did not speak out -
because I was not a pornographer, didn't use pornography.
Then they came for other sex workers -- the strippers, PSOs, writers -- and I did not speak out -
because I was not a sex worker, and didn't understand.
Then they came for the "loose" women, and I did not speak out -
because I felt I would be safe.
Then they came for me limiting and legislating my sexuality - and there was no one left to speak for me.
Based on "First they came..." a poem attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals during the Nazi rise to power, who sat too still as the Nazi's purged their chosen targets, group after group.
